The Polling Place

This cartoon is showing a long line of people waiting to enter into the polling place so they can vote. Also in the picture is a white man asking a what seems to be black man how long it took him to vote or did he have to wait long. As a response the black man replies, " Only a couple hundred years." What the black man is means when he says a couple hundred years is that when people were first allowed to vote, blacks were one of the groups not allowed to. It took hundreds of years before the courts and constitution allowed blacks to vote. In fact on February 3, 1870, the 15th amendment was ratified which gave blacks the right to vote.
